I want to create a store that only people who have the URL can see. I have a client who wants something specific made. I don't want this item to show up in the marketplace, and I want only them to see it.
How do I do this?
Thanks,
KG

This is something that I talked to admin about a long time ago.
I do a lot of customizations for my church (Board members, etc.) and others who aren't comfortable working with the computer. I customize products with their personal information, too. I explained to admin that I also have a photography business where my clients want specialized work done and don't want their information out there for everyone to see.
They told me that I would have to create the product and make it only viewable by me until it was ready to be purchased. When it was ready to be purchased, I had to then edit to make it viewable by the public. I could either work with my client and let them know when it was open for a short window so they could purchase it and then after they did I could make it only viewable by me again. Or, I could make the purchase myself, and bill the client. Unfortunately, the second scenario presented other problems. Since I had "handled" the transaction and billed for my "services", I now had to charge and collect sales tax (Florida). The other problem in doing it the second way is that it's a pain in the patooty. If I want to get the referral for that sale, I have to close out of my store, clear my cache, etc., and go to a second account (following my * link) and make the purchase from there. Then, I have to close everything out again, go back to my original store, and make the product viewable by only me again. What a hassle!
My recommendation to admin was that there should be some sort of setup whereby people who did customizations such as this could customize a "private" product that could be accessed by the client with a password provided to them by the SK so they could make the purchase themselves. That way, the SK could still get the referral and would not have to get involved in the "servicing" arrangement that required sales tax collection. They told me they "will consider it". But I don't think they've done anything like that yet.
If anyone else out there knows of a better way to do this, I'd love to hear, too.

If you post the product as direct/API as opposed to public or hidden it will not show in your store or the MP and will only be accesible through a link you send to your customer.

This is how I handled a situation like this. I had a customer who wanted to order her wedding invitations, but was completely clueless when it came to Zazzle's design interface. After trying unsuccessfully for an hour and a half via the phone to talk her through it, we finally decided that she would email the information and I set up the invitations as a direct / API only. I emailed her the link when they were ready, and she ordered direct. When she had received them and was happy. I simply deleted the product. No need to hide a whole store that way

I'll have to check into that. I wonder why admin didn't mention that to me? That would sure solve a lot of problems. Thanks so much for the info.

Here's another way that someone here on zazzle suggested to me. Start a blog. (I'm using wordpress.com) Make your products direct/api. Put those products in a blog post, linking each to your zazzle shop using your rf#link. (unfortunately you must do one link at a time). Make that particular blog post password protected and then give the password to your customer. Then they link from blog to zazzle and purchase. See how the 'protected post' looks in my blog: Character&Company blogI put the 'private' custom jobs in a Zazzle category called Private Stash. (note, I'm not organizing/using the categories in the classic zazzle method)
